Fix Water Damage and Schedule Your Plumbing Repair

Posted on: April 17, 2017

There is nothing worse than experiencing water damage in your home and plumbing repair is typically necessary to solve the problem. Water damage can range from minor leaks in a sink that ruins the kitchen floor to full-scale problems where water is dripping down the walls. These issues can damage the ceiling, destroy flooring and make a remodel absolutely necessary. In both cases, it is critical to identify the source of the leak and fix it as soon as possible. Otherwise, the damage will only escalate.

Identifying the problem

The challenge with water damage is that it is not always clear what is causing the problem. An unknown cause can be one of the most frustrating things for homeowners. If it is obvious that a toilet is leaking, for example, then calling a plumber out to do the repair is fast and easy. However, if water damage is slow and there is no clear and identifiable source, it becomes a problem that we need to solve.

This type of challenge becomes more common in two or three story homes that have plumbing fixtures on the upper floors. In this case, even a small leak can cause water to run along the beams in the flooring and down the walls on the floor below.

Signs it is time to call in the experts to complete a plumbing repair

If observing any of these in the home, call us and schedule a service call:

Toilets constantly running

Toilets that constantly run can lead to a leak in the future if it has not already done so.

Water spots in the ceiling

These large brown/orange spots are signs of water damage and it is important to identify the source.

Lines running down walls

Another sign of water damage is water marks running down the wall, which is sometimes a line and other times can be spotted.

Mold

If there is a hidden leak, the mold may develop in certain areas.

High water bill

The water bill for a home is typically consistent. So if there is a sudden spike, it can indicate a leak.

Puddles

Obvious water damage includes puddles near a sink, tub, appliance or toilet.

Soft spots on the floor

When water slowly leaks, the flooring can become soft in that particular area.

Assessing the problem

When we come out for a plumbing repair we will start by conducting an investigation into what is causing the leak and to fully assess the damage that has been caused. Depending on the source of the problem this can require five minutes or several hours. With a leak that is difficult to track down, it is incredibly important to spend the time conducting an investigation. Otherwise, water damage will continue to be prevalent in the home.

Once complete, we will make recommendations for what is necessary to complete the repair and provide a full cost breakdown in a bid. At this point, you will need to decide how to proceed. We recommend completing any repair quickly to prevent further damage.
