We both install and service HVAC units.  Working with both families and businesses, we find that by in large, most people know that they need an HVAC unit to stay comfortable but aren’t necessarily sure how it works.  That’s understandable, and it’s why we are here – to keep things running smoothly.  Still, if you’re interested in learning more about heating and cooling, here are fun HVAC facts that you may not know.
  • We love our AC!  According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 72 million homes in the United States have central air conditioning.  Even more homes have wall units.  While those can work well in some climates, nothing can compare with central air for keeping your home and your business comfortable.
  • It’s been around for a while.  In Persia, a version of air conditioning was created using wind towers that caught and funneled cool air through buildings while forcing the hot air out.  Given how hot the Middle East can become, this was a necessary invention.  In modern history, the first large city building to have HVAC was the New York Stock Exchange in 1903.
  • Keeping it clean.  If you want the cleanest possible air – you need an electronic air cleaner because they are forty times more effective than a throwaway filter.  This is especially important for asthmatics and as an HVAC contractor we can service your unit to ensure that the air flowing through it is as pure as possible.
  • Save money.  If you want to reduce the amount that you spend to heat and cool your home, seal up the leaks to save money.  This includes replacing worn or non-existent insulation along with sealing windows and doors.  You can further save money by having a variable speed heat pump installed.
  • Our activities depend on it.  Modern life as you know it depends on HVAC.  Movies in the summer wouldn’t be possible without it.  Doctors visits, hospital stays, shopping at the mall and eating dinner out, are all influenced by the ability to keep a building at the perfect temperature.  As such, the innovations in heating and cooling are in many ways responsible for gains in our society on virtually all levels.  Without it, people would be more homebound.  In fact, by some estimates up to sixty percent of the economic growth in the Southern and Western states can be attributed to air conditioning since it has made it possible for workers to do their jobs year-round.
  • AC in cars.  While homes and businesses started using air conditioning on a wider scale in the early 1900’s, it wasn’t until 1936 that AC was placed into cars with the luxury manufacturer Packard, being the first to do so.  Now, many drivers can’t live without it.
  • Summer vacations used to be more popular.  The one downside of having HVAC systems readily available is that it is no longer commonplace to take long summer vacations.  Previously many businesses and government offices simply had to shut down due to the oppressive heat making it impossible to work.
